Goatess is a Swedish stoner-doom band from Stockholm that was founded in 2009 under the name Weekend Beast .

history

The band was founded in the early summer of 2009 under the name Weekend Beast after guitarist Niklas and singer Christian "Chritus" Linderson had been planning to found a band for a long time. Linderson was previously active with the bands Count Raven , Saint Vitus , Terra Firma and Lord Vicar . In August 2012 the band changed their name to Goatess .

A self-titled debut album was released via Svart Records in 2013, an exclusive Japanese edition was distributed by Spiritual Beast . In April 2014, the band replaced The Oath at the Roadburn Festival . In April 2016, II: Purgatory Under New Management, the band's second studio album, followed.

style

According to Metal Hammer author Björn Springorum, the band plays on Goatess' occult Stoner Doom, whereby the occult traits can already be read from the album cover and the choice of the song title. Springorum found that "the bass slobbers, the guitars hum accusingly and the drums rumble lazily". The singer Linderson sounds like “ Ozzy is singing in a Soundgarden band”. The song Tentacles of Zen uses samples and roaring dopethrone guitars. Music critics repeatedly compare Goatess with bands such as Black Sabbath or Kyuss .
