Goblin Slayer ( Japanese ゴ ブ リ ン ス レ イ ヤ ー , Goburin Sureiyā ) is a light novel series by Kumo Kagyu with illustrations by Noboru Kannatsuki . The fantasy series has been released in Japan since 2016, was adapted as a manga and is implemented as an anime television series.
Action and world are based on pen & paper role-playing games , especially the work of magic is subject to corresponding rules.

In a world threatened by dragons, demons and other beings, a young priestess joins the “Guild of Adventurers” and joins a group of young adventurers consisting of a magician, a swordsman and a martial artist to help against all the threats to fight humanity.
The group of inexperienced adventurers takes on the task of freeing kidnapped girls from the goblins. They go out highly motivated, but are soon ambushed by goblins who attack the group. They stab the magician and also threaten the priestess. The swordsman comes to the rescue, but is quickly overwhelmed and the martial artist is defeated and the goblins attack her.
The priestess tries to escape with the magician, but she is too badly injured and they don't get far before goblins catch up with her and attack. At that moment, Goblin Slayer appears. He saves the priestess and redeems the magician, who was poisoned by the sting, and destroys the entire goblin cave with the support of the priestess, who helps him with her gift of holy light. The girls can be saved, but are traumatized. Despite this first job, which went terribly wrong, the priestess decides to carry on and joins the Goblin Slayer.
Goblin Slayer is a taciturn, intimidating and always cloaked in armor warrior who only accepts orders in the guild in which he can kill goblins. Although the other adventurers of the guild often make fun of him and sometimes speak disparagingly because he only accepts goblin jobs, Goblin Slayer is famous for being the only experienced adventurer who fights against goblins. Because these are indeed a plague for many people, as they raid, murder and rape the villages in gangs, but since they hardly bring in fame or money, most adventurers shy away from hunting goblins.
Goblin Slayer, who saw his village destroyed by goblins as a child, has set himself the goal of exterminating all goblins. The young inexperienced priestess then decides to accompany him on his adventures, although Goblin Slayer is very repellent.
The unequal pair is joined by a dwarf, a high elf and a lizard man. At first the relationship with Goblin Slayer is rather cold, but gradually the Goblin Slayer thaws and gains the respect of the other adventurers and goes on a mission to save the world together with his new comrades.
Publications
The light novel has been published in Japan by SoftBank Creative since February 2016 . So far (as of February 2020) twelve volumes have been published. As early as May 2016, a manga implementation by Kōsuke Kurose started in Big Gangan magazine at Square Enix . The chapters have also been published in eight anthologies so far. The fourth volume sold over 90,000 copies in the first two weeks after publication. Yen Press publishes both light novels and manga in English. A German translation of the manga has been published by Altraverse since July 2018 in seven volumes.
In 2017, the spin-off Goblin Slayer Side Story: Year One started as a manga by Kento Eida , which was also released as a light novel in 2018. Since April 2019 the offshoot appears as Goblin Slayer! Year One also in German at Altraverse. In May 2018, the offshoot Goblin Slayer started in Big Gangan ! Brand New Day by Masahiro Ikeno and concluded in May 2019 with 2 volumes. In 2020, the offshoot Goblin Slayer began to be released! The Singing Death (Goblin Slayer Gaiden 2: Tsubanari no Daikatana). All three mangas were published in June, October 2019 and from July 2020 also in German at Altraverse.
Anime adaptation
In October 2018, an adaptation of the material was released as an anime television series by Studio White Fox . Directed by Takaharu Ozaki , the lead writers are Hideyuki Kurata and Yōsuke Kuroda . The 12 episodes were first broadcast on AT-X from October 7th to December 30th, 2018 , and 30 minutes later on Tokyo MX , SUn TV and BS11 .
The series was licensed before you start AniMoon publishing for English speakers and Wakanim in simulcast streamed. The DVD and Blu-ray will be released in three volumes, with the first released on March 29, 2019. ProSieben Maxx has been broadcasting the series with German synchronization since March 22, 2019.
