from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Godehard Schwethelm (born February 14, 1899 in Erfurt , † 1992 in Lucerne ) was a German architect .

Life

Godehard Schwethelm was born as the son of the Erfurt master builder and contractor Wilhelm Schwethelm. He completed his architecture studies at the Technical University of Stuttgart with a degree in engineering . He began his professional career as an employee of the architect Johannes Otto Berger. He later worked in Merseburg under Paul Bonatz , as well as in Berlin and Munich.

During his creative period he built numerous buildings with different uses. One focus was the construction of larger hospital complexes - initially with careful reference to the new building , such as B. the Harzgerode sanatorium and the deaconess motherhouse Neuvandsburg in Elbingerode . It was characterized by a very clear design language and the careful planning of details in the interior and exterior ( window grilles , clothes lockers, ceiling lamps and clocks, doors etc., e.g. in Harzgerode). Later he designed - now together with partners - modern large-scale projects such as the Großhadern Clinic in Munich .

Godehard Schwethelm has been collecting minerals since the early 1960s, and his collection is now open to the public in the Erfurt Natural History Museum .
