The Goettel Escarpment is a prominent step on the Dyer Plateau in Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 8 km north of the Orion massif and near the head of the Chapman Glacier .

The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1976 after Frederick A. Goettel of the United States Coast Guard , commander of USCGC Westwind in support of the construction of the Palmer Station as part of Operation Deep Freeze in 1967.
