Guldgubber of the Muld variety

Small gold sheet figures, called guldgubbers .

The guldgubbers from the Muld variety are gold sheet figures (so-called guldgubbers ) that were found near Svaneke in the north-east of Bornholm . They date from the 6th century AD, when the Muld variety was a center of trade and craft. There were similarly important centers in Åhus and Helgö in Sweden , Dankirke near Ribe , Gudme (on Funen ) in Denmark, Borg and Klepp in Norway, and on Öland and Gotland .

Around 2,500 gold sheet figures were found near Svaneke, which are interpreted as idol amulets. Other Bornholm finds come from Møllegård, Rønne and Smørenge . Such gold work was also found in Gudme and Helgö and over 25 other places.

The early centers , especially the Muld and Gudme variety with its Iron Age hall , are sometimes viewed as early royal seats. This is supported by the concentration of the gold hoard in combination with theophoric place names (Gudme = gods' home, Helgö = holy island, the Muld variety means Hellig Kvinde = holy woman) as an indication of a cult center. The replacement of Himlingøje ( Stevns peninsula , Zealand ) by Gudme speaks in favor of territorial rule. A central sanctuary and a king's hall are assumed in each case, as has been archaeologically proven for Gudme and Lejre and various places on Gotland. A total of 29 guldgubbers were found in Västra Vång in Blikinge . This makes Västra Vång the third largest site in Sweden.
