The Golden Ears Bridge is a six-lane road bridge in the Canadian province of British Columbia . The 976 m long crossing of the Fraser River was planned, financed and built by the German construction company Bilfinger Berger . The operator of the structure, which was realized with the help of a public-private partnership , is the Golden Crossing General Partnership concession company for a total of 32 years . The cost of the entire project should be recovered through tolls. Due to changed political framework conditions, the toll obligation was abolished early on 31 August 2017.

construction

The bridge was built as an extradosed bridge with external pillars . A total of 160 stay cables are run over four pairs of piers to hold the roadway. This consists of prefabricated, respectively 18 t heavy reinforced concrete components .

Associated infrastructure

In the course of the construction of the Golden Ears Bridge, additional access roads with two to six lanes and a total length of 13.3 km were created to connect the bridge to the existing road infrastructure. In addition, municipal (high-speed) roads were expanded over a total of 14.2 km in order to cope with the increasing volume of traffic with the opening of the bridge. This also included the construction of 16 smaller bridges.
