Golden Gate (Club)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Golden Gate is a techno club in Berlin-Mitte .

It is located in a pillar of the Berlin Stadtbahn in the immediate vicinity of Berlin Jannowitzbrücke station and, according to the Resident Advisor magazine, is one of the ten most important clubs in Berlin in the field of electronic music (as of September 2015).

history

The Golden Gate was founded in 2002. The operators are Hubertus von Strachwitz and Reimund Spitzer. Musically, the founders began with a mixed program, which included concerts with rock 'n' roll and electroclash . Later they turned to so-called after - hours parties. Today the club usually opens on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays around midnight, although there is sometimes an interruption only on Friday afternoons and the parties sometimes go on until Monday morning. Mainly techno and house are played . The line-up includes a high proportion of Berlin-based DJs, including internationally known names such as Gerald Simpson , who helped shape the development of Acid House internationally in the 1980s, and Dirty Doering . In 2015 it was announced that the Gate had extended its lease for a further ten years.

reception

The club has been the subject of national and international reporting for years. These include mentions in the New York Times , which cited the club as an example of the fact that Berliners still like to party in ruins (“Still Partying in the Ruins”) or the British Guardian .
