history

The brand was introduced on the German market in 1963 to increase the consumption of toast , a baked good that was unknown at the time. To this end, nine medium-sized bakeries founded the working group to promote the consumption of toasted bread . Today, the Lieken AG companies , which have been part of the Czech Agrofert Group since 2013 , are the sole beneficiaries of the usage and distribution rights. The first product to be brought onto the market was wheat toast based on the American model. In the meantime, various toast and sandwich variations (wheat, wholemeal toast) as well as baked goods are offered.

The trademark was registered on August 6, 1970 at the German Patent and Trademark Office . In May 2010 the word mark Golden Toast was rejected as a community trademark by the European Court of Justice.

According to the evaluation by Information Resources GmbH from April 2017, Golden Toast was the market leader in the toasted bread category (toasted bread, sandwich, toasted bun) with a market share of 23 percent. In 2016, aided brand awareness was 99 percent.
