The gold dot pupa predator ( Calosoma auropunctatum ) is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae) and belongs to the genus of pupa predators ( Calosoma ). The species used to be called the subspecies C. maderae auropunctatum of Calosoma maderae .

features

The animals are 18 to 30 millimeters long and have a coppery to black basic color. On their finely structured wings there are three rows of red-gold or green dots. Unlike the other species of the genus, the gold-dot pupa robbers have strongly curved rails (tibiae) on the middle and rear legs .

Occurrence

The animals occur in Europe , except in the west and southwest, east across Asia Minor and Central Asia to Mongolia and the west of the People's Republic of China . The species is very rare in Germany , with the exception of some areas of Brandenburg , and is therefore classified as endangered. They live in sandy and loamy fields, dry meadows, in bushes or in heather .

Way of life

Unlike the other species of doll robbers, the gold dot doll robber does not climb trees, but only hunts on the ground. He is a good runner and hunts caterpillars , beetle larvae and snails during the day . The wintering takes place as an imago .
