The Goldquelle , also called Goldbachquelle , is a karst spring near Heidenheim an der Brenz on the Swabian Alb in Baden-Württemberg .

description

The Pflusterbach spring
The draining Pflusterbach

The gold source is located between Heidenheim and Mergelstetten on the left of the Brenz , directly on federal road 19 . The Brunnenmühlenquelle is on the opposite side of the valley . The karst spring is located on the banks of the Pflusterbach, which rises a little north of the Pflusterbachquelle .

The Pflusterbach , also called Goldbach , which rises from the Goldquelle and Pflusterbachquelle , flows into a branch of the Brenz after about 550 m. The Darmbach is a tributary of the Pflusterbach. The average flow of both karst springs is 1200 l / s.

history

The gold spring was supposed to supply a company building with water in the 19th century. The owner took it over together with the gold mill in 1884. In 1885 he sold it to the town of Heidenheim because it was not poured out, which at the same time acquired the Pflusterbach spring from the town of Mergelstetten, which was not yet part of the town. With a steam piston pump, their spring water, like that of the Brunnenmühlen spring, was pumped into the elevated tank at Hellenstein Castle . The remains of this historic basin can still be seen today ( 48 ° 39 ′ 56.6 ″  N , 10 ° 8 ′ 44.8 ″  E ). Today the Pflusterbach spring feeds into the drinking water supply of Heidenheim with the help of a pumping station . It is completely fenced and privately owned by Stadtwerke Heidenheim AG . For many years it has not been extracted directly from the source, but from deeper groundwater layers.
