The Goliath Jagdwagen Type 34 or truck 0.25 t gl (4 × 4) Goliath Type 34 is an off-road vehicle that Goliath built in 1957 as a successor to the Goliath Type 31 prototype developed for the German Armed Forces .

description

The Type 31 failed the tender competition because it was found to be technically immature after many deficiencies had been discovered in the test phases. Transmission, drive and especially the customary at Goliath two stroke - injection engine were considered susceptible to interference.

So Goliath made significant improvements to the Type 34 . The Type 34 received a water-cooled four-cylinder four- stroke aluminum engine in boxer design, with which the vehicle reached a top speed of almost 100 km / h .

The look of the car's body differed only marginally from the Type 31 , but with the modified drive unit it was ten centimeters longer than its predecessor and now had three instead of two beads on the flanks. The vehicle's payload was approximately 590 kilograms.

The now considerably improved Type 34 with a four-stroke engine was made available to the Bundeswehr for testing purposes in a body variant with a 2000 mm wheelbase in April 1958. After 600 km the car had to be shut down due to an engine failure; a valve spring was broken. The vehicle with the chassis number 34.0100 01 also had an accident on May 10, 1958 during the testing phase and had to be repaired at the manufacturer's works. After that, the test was not continued.

The total of 50 Goliath SUVs procured for the Bundeswehr remained with the troops until they were separated.

After the technical changes, the Type 34 would have had a good chance in the tendering competition, but it came too late because the Bundeswehr had already decided to buy the DKW Munga from Auto Union . In total, Goliath built around 100 hunting vehicles, including around 80 of the Type 34 .
