Gonzalo Rubén Bergessio (born July 20, 1984 in Córdoba , Argentina ) is an Argentine football player .

Career

society

Bergesio began his professional career at the age of 16 at Club Atlético Platense . After that he worked in Argentina before moving to Benfica Lisbon , a top European club. There he could not assert himself, however, and after only half a year moved back to CA San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina . There he was able to show good performances again and again attracted attention. In 2009 he moved to the French Ligue 1 to AS Saint-Étienne . After a year and a half and getting along well, he played for six months on loan from Catania Calcio in the Italian Serie A , where he fitted in well. After returning to Saint-Étienne, he played two more games before Catania signed him completely.

National team

Bergessio made his debut in the Argentine national team on October 16, 2008 in the World Cup qualifier against Chile , which was lost 1-0. In the friendly against Panama on May 20, 2009 Bergessio scored his only goals so far in the national jersey. His last international match so far was against Ecuador on June 10, 2009 .
