Gordon Dunn
Gordon Dunn ( Gordon Glover Dunn ; born April 16, 1912 in Portland , Oregon , † July 26, 1964 in San Francisco ) was an American discus thrower .
In 1936 he won the US elimination match for the Olympic Games in Berlin , where he won the silver medal with 49.36 m behind his compatriot Ken Carpenter (50.48 m) and in front of the Italian Giorgio Oberweger (49.23 m).
In 1934, starting for Stanford University , he became NCAA champion. He was national runner-up in discus throwing three times (1934-1936) and twice in the shot put (1933, 1935).
He was mayor of Fresno from 1949 to 1957 .
