The Goslar Square is a small park in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg on the border to the industrial area Moabit -West. It is located 500 meters from Mierendorffplatz , directly on the Charlottenburg connecting canal . It is named after the city of Goslar in the Harz region .

history

The Goslarer Platz was created by keeping a block free in the course of the development planning for this bourgeois part of Charlottenburg and has had its name since April 13, 1909. The design envisaged an oval playground in the south and a semicircular ornamental area in the north, in which a fountain was to be created. Erwin Barth , from 1912 garden director of the city of Charlottenburg, was in charge of the superstructure.

Barth changed the planting and the spatial appearance from the original concept. The playground should be more clearly demarcated by a series of hedges and cut trees. A low picket trellis was built around the playground, accompanied by red-flowered horse chestnuts.

Erwin Barth also replaced the neat bed and border shapes provided in the original design with simple plant strips. A planned fountain was also deleted. The ornamental lawn to the north was accompanied by a rose border and to the south by rhododendrons . On the long sides was a herbaceous border against the background of a Mahonia hedge. In the curve there were ivy-covered slatted frames with seating niches , similar to the later on Savignyplatz . The entrances to both parts of the square were vaulted with rose arches.

Goslarer Platz is a listed building .
