Goswin Bütepage

Goswin Bütepage ( bl. 1505–1535) was councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck during the Wullenwever period .

Life

The exact life dates of the Lübeck citizen Goswin Bütepage are not known.

Since 1505 he was married to Adelheid (Taleke), the widow of the Lübeck merchant Christian Swarte , who had donated the side altar named after him in Lübeck's Marienkirche , which is now a reredos on the main altar of the church. Adelheid Swarte brought him the village of Israelsdorf as a married property, which he sold to the city of Lübeck in 1513. His seal is handed down in the Lübeck citizens' seals .

As a pensioner, Goswin Bütepage was a member of the 64 citizens' committee and was elected to the Lübeck council on April 27, 1532 by the citizens . At the end of the Wullenwever period in Lübeck, he resigned from the council in August 1535 .

His family owned a side chapel in the north aisle of St. Mary's Church (chapel N2, later Bremer chapel).
