The Gottesackerkirche , formerly St. Maria , is in Pößneck , a town in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia .

description

The small hall church was first mentioned as a chapel in 1497 . The current part of the building in the east was built in the 13th century. After the church cemetery was moved to the property in 1530, it was consecrated as a Gottesackerkirche. The somewhat wider western part was added in 1626. Both parts of the building are covered with slate-covered gable roofs, from that of the western part rises a slated roof turret . The rectangular nave has different windows, the choir in the east has pointed arched windows. The interior of the choir has a barrel vault , that of the nave is covered with a coffered ceiling, the ornamental painting of which has been lost from the second half of the 16th century.

The chapel was used as a cemetery church after the Reformation. Since 1998 it has served as an exhibition and event location.
