Gottfried Bachl

Gottfried Bachl (born April 16, 1932 in Linz ; † May 23, 2020 ) was an Austrian theologian and university professor of Catholic dogmatics .

Life

Bachl grew up in Pregarten . From 1953 to 1963 he studied theology in Rome and was ordained a priest in 1959. From 1963 to 1966 he was chaplain in Wels , from 1966 to 1970 first a lecturer, then professor for dogmatics and ecumenical theology at the Catholic Theological University in Linz .

From 1983 Bachl was Professor of Dogmatics at the Theological Faculty of the University of Salzburg , 1991–1995 as Dean and then until 1997 as Vice Dean. In 1998 Bachl retired.

In some sermons and publications Bachl turned against "definitive answers to the unfathomable"; He rejected intellectual, theological or political “totalitarian language”.

According to his obituary, he was a father and a grandfather.
