Gottfried Below (born February 2, 1924 ) is a former German soccer player. In Chemnitz / Karl-Marx-Stadt he played for chemistry / motor in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

For the first time in the 1951/52 season, the 27-year-old midfielder Gottfried Below was part of the second-rate GDR league team of the company sports community (BSG)Chemnitz mentioned. Already in his first season he won a regular place in the team with 20 appearances and one goal in 22 matches played. While he was also only missing in two league games in 1952/53, he came in the 1953/54 season, in which the BSG Chemie under the new city name Karl-Marx-Stadt managed to rise to the GDR league, only in the 26 league games twelve missions (1 goal). In the first league season of Karl-Marx-Städter with 26 point games, Below was only called up three times in the first half of 1954/55, but was used in all 13 matches in the second half. He usually played as a right runner. Below played twelve games of the 13 games played in the transition round to switch to the calendar year rhythm of the game in the fall of 1955. In 1956, Below went into his final season in high-class football at the age of 32.
