Gottfried Fitzer

Gottfried Fitzer (born May 3, 1903 in Groß Bresa ; † April 12, 1997 in Winklern ) was a German Protestant theologian and New Testament scholar.

Life

He grew up in Breslau , received his doctorate from Ernst Lohmeyer in 1928 at the University of Breslau and completed his habilitation there in 1931 with two papers on the concept of martys . During the Nazi era, he joined the Confessing Church , lost his venia legendi in 1935, was imprisoned and worked as a pastor in a rural community in Silesia . After the conquest of Wroclaw by Russian troops, he and his community fled to Bavaria . After a guest professorship in 1949/50 at the University of Vienna , he taught there from 1950 to 1973 as aProfessor of the New Testament.
