Gottfried I (Joinville)

Gottfried I of Joinville (fr. Geoffroy I ; † 1080 ) was Lord of Joinville and comes Ioviniaci ( Count of Joigny ?).

Like his father, Stephan von Joinville , Gottfried was known for his raids against church property in the Champagne region , and like this, he was excommunicated by Pope Leo IX. threatened. Towards the end of his life, however, Gottfried returned large parts of the property he had stolen to the owners.

He was married to Blanche de Reynel (also Blanche de Mosellane ), sister of Arnoul, Canon of Verdun , and had at least three sons with her:

  • Gottfried II (who inherited his father)
  • Rainard († after 1096)
  • Hilduin (X 1055, at the Battle of Boulogne)
