Gottfried Körner

Gottfried Körner (born April 8, 1927 in Werdau ; † December 2, 2015 in Dresden ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

After finishing school, Körner first completed an apprenticeship in lithography before he had to do military service until 1945. From 1945 to 1951 he worked as a freelancer in his hometown of Werdau . He then studied at the Dresden University of Fine Arts until 1956 . With the diploma he became a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR , the Federal Association of Visual Artists , the Saxon Artists Association and the New Saxon Art Association . Körner worked as a freelance artist in Dresden from 1956 until he died in 2015. He was buried in the Heidefriedhof (Dresden) .

In 1958 he received the Max Pechstein Prize from the city of Zwickau .

The preferred subject of his work was nature. His representations moved stylistically on the border between objectivity and abstraction. He gained attention and recognition in particular with his etchings. But he also created colored works.
