Gottfried Klingemann

Gottfried Klingemann (born January 28, 1884 in Berlin , † October 18, 1953 in Haunstetten) was a German SS brigade leader and major general of the Waffen SS .

biography

Klingemann joined the Prussian army in 1903 as a flag junior in the infantry regiment "Herwarth von Bittenfeld" (1st Westphalian) No. 13 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1904 . From 1911 to 1914 he attended the Berlin War Academy and in the meantime had been promoted to first lieutenant in 1913. He took part in the First World War, from December 1914 in the rank of skin man . After the end of the war he worked in the Prussian War Ministry from January to June 1919. In September 1920 he received the title of major ( character ). During the Weimar Republic , he made his living as a businessman.

Klingemann joined the NSDAP at the end of 1931 (membership number 817.565) and the SA in 1932 . From November 1933 to March 1935 he was in charge of the FAD's registration office in Münster . Then he was employed as a border guard regimental commander and training manager.

He became a member of the Waffen SS in 1937 , initially as SS-Sturmbannführer (Major), in 1938 as SS-Obersturmbannführer and in early 1939 as SS-Standartenführer .
From April 1937 to December 1939 he was head of Central Department 1/2 in the SD Main Office .

From January to July 1940 he belonged to SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 13 and then until the end of 1940 to the support staff of the SS Infantry Regiment Nordland . Until July 1941 he was in command of the SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 4 and then as SS-Oberführer and from April 1942 as SS-Brigadführer and Major General of the Waffen-SS until January 1943 in command of the 2nd SS Infantry Brigade as a volunteer unit in the 18th Army ( Army Group North ). From the beginning to August 1943 he headed the SS Junker School Bad Tölz . After that he was inspector for the infantry in the SS leadership main office until his retirement in May 1944 .
