Gottfried Zimmermann

Gottfried Zimmermann ( 7 May 1670 - 17 August 1723 ) was a German publisher in Wittenberg and Zerbst . He was a grandfather of the enlightener Friedrich Nicolai .

Life

Gottfried Zimmermann had been working as a publisher and bookseller in Wittenberg since 1698 at the latest. In 1700 he acquired a branch in Berlin , which he handed over to Johann Wilhelm Meyer in 1703 and to his son-in-law Christoph Gottlieb Nicolai in 1713 . He founded the Nicolaische Verlagbuchhandlung there .

Zimmermann also had a publishing branch in Zerbst since 1710 at the latest. He was councilor ( Raths-relative , senator adjunctus ) in Wittenberg, probably also mayor at times.

Gottfried Zimmermann was married. Descendants were

  • Maria Justine Nicolai († 1738), wife of the publisher Christoph Gottlieb Nicolai and mother of the important enlightener Friedrich Nicolai
  • Gottfried Samuel Zimmermann († 1761), successor as publisher in Wittenberg and Zerbst
