Gotthilf Kurz
Gotthilf Kurz (born September 4, 1923 in Reudern ; † April 28, 2010 in Munich ) was a German bookbinder , book artist and graphic artist.
life and work
Gotthilf Kurz began his training at the Werkkunstschule in Offenbach in 1943. In 1948 he passed the final examination in writing and graphics and in 1949 the master's examination in bookbinding. He then went on to study book graphics at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. The stay at the Collège Technique Municipal Estienne in Paris from 1955 to 1956 was of particular importance for further artistic development. In 1965 he was appointed head of the master class for bookbinders at the Academy for the Graphic Arts in Munich. He led this class for 28 years.
From 1967 to 1982 Gotthilf Kurz was president of the international association " Masters of the Art of Binding ". The Württemberg State Library Stuttgart has short bequeathed his collection of 521 Handeinbänden with all possible reference types of leather to Plexiglas.
In 1994 the state of Baden-Württemberg honored him for his work as a teacher and artist with the award of the Baden-Württemberg Order of Merit .
