Hemiscyllium halmahera is a species of shark fromthe bamboo shark family (Hemiscylliidae). The species was in mid-2013 on the basis of two 65.6 and 68.1 cm long type specimens described . The fish were caught on the small island of Ternate , on the Indonesian island of Halmahera .

features

Hemiscyllium Halmahera similar to that from the Cenderawasih Bay in the northwest of the island of New Guinea in the Indonesian province of Papua known Hemiscyllium galei and differs from this type mainly by the color. The shark is brownish in color and shows a pattern of numerous spots composed of two to three dark, polygonal dots, widely scattered white dots between these spots, some (<10 mm) dark spots on the top of the head and paired dark markings on the underside of the head. On the back there are some large, U-shaped, dark spots that are more or less clearly bordered in white in their lower halves. Below that are vertical rows of two to three dark spots.

The distribution area is in the waters around the Moluccas .

The shark is nocturnal and continuously covers many distances on its pair of fins . It can survive in deoxygenated water for an hour.

Hemiscyllium galei , on the other hand, has 7 to 8 large, horizontally aligned, elongated, dark spots on the underside between the trunk and tail fin base and usually 25 dark spots on the top of the head.
