Gottlieb Loertscher

Gottlieb Loertscher (born November 17, 1914 in Oberentfelden ; † March 17, 1997 in Solothurn ) was a Swiss art historian and monument conservator .

Life

Loertscher was based in the Simmental and grew up in the Swiss plateau . He worked as a primary school teacher before he in 1947 Joseph Gantner at the University of Basel with a dissertation on the collegiate Schönenwerd doctorate . From 1951 he worked as a conservator for the canton of Solothurn and from 1957 to 1979 he was its first full-time monument conservator .

In 1975 he published the volume Solothurn in the series of regional art guides of the Society for Swiss Art History . Loertscher also drew, including hundreds of cover pictures for the Solothurn magazine Jura sheets . After his retirement he gave courses at adult education centers in the region and led art trips abroad. He was an honorary member of the Swiss Homeland Security .
