Gottlieb Wüthrich

Gottlieb Wüthrich (born April 16, 1879 in Münchenbuchsee ; † December 16, 1946 in London ) was a Swiss electrical engineer , director of the London branch of the Oerlikon machine factory and an art and coin collector .

Gottlieb Wüthrich was born as the son of a station director of the Swiss Federal Railways. He completed an apprenticeship as an electrical engineer at the Burgdorf technical center and then worked for the Oerlikon machine factory from 1898. From 1899 he worked in the subsidiary in London, from 1921 as its director. He collected old Swiss coins that he recognized as historical sources, Celtic coins as well as Swiss coats of arms and prints by Matthias Apiarius . His coat of arms collection was sold immediately after his death, the numismatic collection Gottlieb Wüthrich was auctioned in 1971 and 1984. The Swiss Gutenberg Museum received the graphics of Apiarius as a deposit.

He also collected works by Swiss artists, such as Angelika Kauffmann .
