The Gousselerbierg tunnel is a tunnel on the A 7 in Luxembourg between Lorentzweiler and Mersch . With a length of 2,695 meters, it was the longest tunnel in Luxembourg before the Grouft tunnel opened in 2015.
construction
The preparatory work began on April 17th, the actual drilling work on November 21st, 2000. The breakthrough took place on December 12th, 2002 in the presence of Grand Duke Henri . On January 24, 2008, the route was opened to traffic.
The tunnel was built using the New Austrian Tunneling Method . It consists of two independent tubes with a horseshoe profile . For safety reasons, both tubes are connected by a total of eight cross tunnels, three of which can also be used by rescue vehicles.
location
The tunnel leads the A 7 from the Alzette valley under the northern part of the eponymous Gousseler Berg ( lux. Gousselerbierg ) through to the lowest part of the Mamer valley , about two kilometers before its confluence with the Alzette. It lies entirely in the area of the municipality of Lintgen .
