The Beirut Governorate ( Arabic محافظة بيروت, DMG Muḥāfaẓat Bayrūt ) is the only one of eight governorates in Lebanon that consists of just one city , Beirut .
The area of this governorate is only 19.8 km²; nevertheless, this governorate is considered the most important region in Lebanon due to its economic, political, cultural and social activities.
