The Governorate of South Lebanon ( Arabic الجنوب al-Dschanub , DMG al-Ǧanūb ) is one of six governorates in Lebanon with a population of around 350,000 people. The administrative seat is Sidon .
geography
The South Lebanon Governorate covers an area of around 2,000 km². The lowest point is the sea level of the Mediterranean Sea, the highest point is about 1000 m high. The inhabitants are made up of Shiites , Sunnis , Orthodox, Catholics , Armenians and Protestants . Temperatures drop to 4 ° C in winter, during which it rains a lot and also snows at higher altitudes. The dry summers bring temperatures of up to 30 ° C in the coastal areas. The rivers that flow through the governorate are Litani (also called Qasmiye as it flows westward), Zahrani , Naqura , Awali and Hasbani .
economy
The region lives from the production of citrus fruits, tobacco, bananas and tourism, especially in the area of Tire. Tourist attractions are the sandy beaches south of Tire, the ancient Phoenician and Roman ruins at Sidon and Tire, and a cultural festival in Tire.
