Gouviães is a town and a former municipality in northern Portugal .

history

The community of Gouviães probably emerged long after the Reconquista . Around 1520 it was first planned as an independent municipality, which it became shortly afterwards.

On September 29, 2013, the municipality of Gouviães was merged with the municipality of Ucanha to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Gouviães e Ucanha as part of the administrative reorganization . The headquarters of the new municipality became Gouviães.

Gouviães was the seat of an eponymous ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Tarouca , in the district of Viseu . 401 inhabitants live in the former municipality (as of June 30, 2011). Since September 2013 Gouviães is the seat of the new municipality União das Freguesias de Gouviães e Ucanha .

The former municipality of Gouviães consisted of two localities:

  • Gouviães
  • Eira Queimada
