Govert van Emmerik
Govert van Emmerik (born November 3, 1808 in Dordrecht , † November 11, 1882 in Hamburg ) was a Dutch marine painter .
Live and act
Govert van Emmerik was the son of Matthijs van Emmerik and Adriana van Steenbergen. He was a student of PJ Schotel and P. Hofman in Dordrecht. In 1861 he moved to Hamburg; from 1847 he exhibited his paintings in The Hague and Amsterdam, from 1862 also in Hamburg. A painting by van Emmerik was the subject of a restitution of looted art in 2010 ; the claim was made to the Dutch State Collection. The picture Schepen bij een kust from 1869 was restituted to the heirs.
