The Gowan Glacier is about 28 km long glacier in the Heritage Range , the southern part of the Antarctic Ellsworth Mountains . The head of the glacier is near Cunningham Peak . From there it flows in a northerly direction, where it finally flows east of the Welcome Nunatak into the Minnesota Glacier .

The glacier was mapped by the United States Geological Survey as part of the survey of the Ellsworth Mountains in the years 1961–1966 through field surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy . The American Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the glacier after Lieutenant Jimmy L. Gowan (United States Navy), who worked as a senior officer and doctor at the American research station Plateau Station in 1966 .
