Welcome nunatak is a relatively small but very distinctive conical nunatak that is almost isolated. It is located south of the Minnesota Glacier and north of the Reuther Nunatakker in the Founders Peaks in the West Antarctic Heritage Range . The Gowan Glacier flowing east of the Nunatak meets the Minnesota Glacier northeast of the Welcome Nunatak.
The Nunatak got its name from the geological expedition of the University of Minnesota , which explored the area in the summer of 1963/64. For the members of the expedition, the motor toboggans used for locomotion, was the Nunatak a welcome ( english welcome ) sight because it meant that they now almost in their base camp at the Camp Hills had arrived.
