The Münsingen-Rain cemetery is an archaeological excavation site near Münsingen in the canton of Bern , Switzerland .

It was discovered in 1904 while quarrying gravel . It was then archaeologically examined under the direction of Jakob Widmer-Stern until 1906. The cemetery can be dated to the early to middle La Tène period . More than 200 graves were found in this Celtic cemetery. The Münsingen cemetery was located on a terrace-like site, as was often the case with other grave fields from the Latène period.

Frequent grave goods finds in the men's graves were weapons such as swords , sometimes supplemented by a lance or a shield . Another attribute that only appeared in men's graves was meat.

The grave goods of the women were fibulae , neck, arm, foot and finger rings, as well as amber beads in girls' graves .

Some graves were left without gifts.

It is noticeable that less valuable graves were grouped around graves with relatively valuable grave goods. With this knowledge, the burial ground could be divided into five districts, each with a main grave of a woman and a man. Another finding is that one of the younger districts gradually by the body burials to cremation burials passed.
