The Gränsleden ( Sami Rádjebálges, Norwegian Grenseleden ) or German "Grenzweg" is a marked hiking trail through the Swedish and Norwegian fells (norw. Fjell ). It leads about 62 km from Ritsem (municipality of Gällivare in Sweden ) to Sørfjorden (municipality of Tysfjord in Norway ). The trail was laid out in 2007 and extended in 2010.

history

The Gränsleden is an old path between Sørfjorden in Norway and Akkajaure in Sweden. The Sami resident in the area have been using the trail since the 1920s or 1930s when the reindeer migrations ended and summer camps began.

During World War II, Norwegian refugees used the route to get to Sweden. Therefore, you can still find old German fortifications near the path.

After the end of the war, the path was rarely used and was forgotten.

As part of a project of the EU Regional Development Fund , the path was revived from 2007 to 2010 in cooperation with the Sörkaitum seed settlement : new path markings and signposts were installed, and windbreaks and bridges were built over the larger watercourses. There are also overnight huts on the Norwegian side.

Path marking on a tree

The trail runs between Ritsem and Sørfjorden .

Highlighted the way in treeless is kalfjäll with red cairns , in forest areas by hanging on trees wooden blocks in traditional sämischen colors blue, yellow, green and red. Furthermore, the trees along the path are marked with red color markings. The route with all shelters and overnight huts from the 2012 edition is also marked on the Fjällkarta BD7.

The course in detail:

  • Sørfjorden (windbreak, boat connection to Kjøpsvik)
  • Brynvatnet (hut) ← 4 km
  • Kjeringvatnet (hut) ← 3 km
  • Krokvatnet (hut) ← 5 km
  • Røysvatnet (windbreak, Røysvatnet tourist hut 1.7 km away on Nordkalottleden ) ← 10 km
  • Border stone No. 251 ← 1.3 km
  • Crossing Nordkalottleden ← 0.7 km
  • Sårgå (windbreak) ← 3 km
  • Gálavárddo (windbreak) ← 9 km
  • Väständan Akkajaure (windbreak, boat connection to Ritsem) ← 6 km
  • Sievgok (windbreak) ← 12 km
  • Ritsem ( Fjällstation ) ← 8 km

At boundary stone No. 251, the path crosses the border between Sweden and Norway.

The entire route is around 62 km long. Alternatively, you can start / end the hike at the west end of Akkajaure; this shortened route is then about 42 km long.

From or to Sørfjorden you can take a boat to / from Kjøpsvik via Sørfjorden or Indre Tysfjord . This boat connection does not exist regularly (as of August 2011). A boat transfer to / from the west bank of the Akkajaure from / to Ritsem should also be booked in advance.

Ritsem offers a connection to the famous Swedish long-distance hiking trails Padjelantaleden (via a boat connection to Akka) and Kungsleden (via a bus connection to Vakkotavaare).
