The Padjelantaleden (meaning Padjelanta = Lule : "The higher the country," Leden = Swedish: "path") is a 140 km hiking trail in Sweden , that of Kvikkjokk starting by the National Park Padjelanta (part of the Swedish world heritage Laponia ) until after Ritsem leads . There are numerous huts and tents at intervals between 12 and 24 km.
In Kvikkjokk, the Kungsleden hiking trail meets the Padjelantaleden. In Ritsem there is a connection to the Gränsleden leading to Søfjorden in Norway . Part of the Padjelantaleden coincides with the Nordkalottleden , which leads from Kautokeino in Norway to Sulitjelma (also Norway).
Compared to other routes in northern Scandinavia, the route is rarely used; it is very well developed with bridges over streams and wooden plank paths through the swampy areas.
The starting points Kvikkjokk and Ritsem can be easily reached by public bus from Murjek and Gällivare (where there is a convenient connection to the railway) and from Jokkmokk . In Kvikkjokk and Ritsem, the hiking trail begins and ends with a boat passage (in summer with a fixed timetable, which is adapted to the bus timetable).
In addition to the intensive experience of the wilderness of Lapland in all its facets, the Padjelantaleden enables the encounter with the indigenous culture of the Sami like no other : two summer settlements ( Staloluokta with the most beautiful Kotenkirche, as well as Arasluokta), various inhabited and dilapidated peat and tent pods (which one not allowed to enter) and their large herds of reindeer .
Course, huts and campsites
The huts in the Padjelanta National Park have been looked after by the Sami cooperative Badjelandda Ekonomiska Föreningen since 2000 and the huts outside the park belong to Svenska Turistföreningen (STF).
Tents can usually be set up in prepared places near the huts (observe the safety distance due to the risk of fire!) And the facilities in the huts can be used at the same time. A corresponding fee is due for this. Recommended campsites away from the huts are shown in brackets below; the distances refer to the previous hut.
