Staloluokta is a Sami summer settlement in Swedish Lapland . The place is located in the Padjelanta National Park on the southeast bay of Lake Virihaure . Translated, the name means "the bay of the stallo". Stallo is a terrifying giant from Sami mythology .

In Staloluokta you can find modern wooden houses as well as a number of peat and tent droppings , the traditional habitation of the Sami . Some are still in use today, while others are falling into disrepair or are only used as storage rooms or bakeries. A special feature in this regard is the large Koten Church, which towers on a hill above the settlement. A strange contrast arises when a modern photovoltaic system or a television antenna is mounted on an ancient peat kota .

The settlement is important for fishing on the Virihaure and forms the summer camp for the reindeer herding community of the Tuorpon Sami, the largest in Jokkmokk municipality with 5,500 reindeer and 43 households . With a little luck you can accompany the Sami to the reindeer divorces from here.

The Padjelantaleden hiking trail passes Staloluokta. Hikers will find accommodation in the village. Helicopter flights from Staloluokta lead to Kvikkjokk , Arasluokta and Ritsem . The other seed settlements on Virihaure can also be reached by boat transfer. The Sarek National Park is a good day's stage in the northeast of Staloluokta, the Norwegian border is two days in the southeast. In addition to hiking equipment, visitors to Staloluokta are offered Sami specialties such as dried reindeer meat (Suovvas), flat bread (Glödkaka) and smoked fish.
