Grégory Malicki (born November 23, 1973 in Thiais ) is a former French football goalkeeper .

Career

Malicki was accepted into the first team of the second division Chamois Niort in 1995 at the age of 21 and already played 16 appearances in his first season with the team. In the following year he was the undisputed goalkeeper and played 41 of 42 games. He was able to defend this position until 1999 when he was signed by the first division club Stade Rennes . At Rennes, too, they initially relied on him, so that Malicki made his first division debut on July 31, 1999 against FC Metz and he remained without conceding a goal thanks to a 0-0. He was temporarily replaced by Fabien Debec with a yellow-red card on matchday nine . Debec was ultimately able to push Malicki permanently out of the gate, so that he had to sit on the bench for the rest of the first half of the season. Therefore, he was loaned to the second division US Créteil for the second half of the season, where he was again the goalkeeper. After returning to Rennes in the summer of 2000, he was awarded again in the second division. His new employer was LB Châteauroux and Malicki was given a regular place there too.

After his return in 2001, Rennes decided on a third loan. Instead of moving to the second division, Malicki moved to the first division club OSC Lille , where he did not get beyond two league appearances as a substitute goalkeeper, but was still committed by Lille for other seasons in 2002. Over the years, Malicki kept the role of second keeper, even if he was used as such at least once in the league each season. He also made his UEFA Cup debut on February 15, 2006 in a 3-2 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk and his Champions League debut on October 17 of the same year in a 3-1 draw against AEK Athens . For seven years, Malicki took on the role of substitute goalkeeper at Lille until he became a regular goalkeeper in the 2008/09 season.

Because coach Rudi Garcia no longer planned with him, he left the city in northern France at the end of the year and switched to the second division club FCO Dijon , where he was also seeded. A year later, the 36-year-old goalkeeper went to league rivals SCO Angers . Despite his relatively old age, Malicki was also able to secure his regular place in goal in western France. In 2011, the then 37-year-old was appointed team captain. He was able to maintain his place as number one in goal in the years that followed until he received no new contract offer from Angers in 2014 at the age of 40. This ended his playing career.
