Green and white Hamburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grün-Weiß Hamburg was a sports club from Hamburg . The first soccer team played for seven years in the highest Hamburg amateur league.

history

The club was founded in the spring of 1953 as FC Grün-Weiß from 1953 and was initially only open to employees of the textile company Peter Holm, popularly known as Betten-Holm . Since it was a company sports club, the Hamburg Football Association refused the application for membership. Company boss Albert Goetz then initiated a merger with Ottensen 07 to form FC Grün-Weiß 07 Hamburg . The team then set out on a sporting high-altitude flight.

In 1954, Grün-Weiß rose to the association league without losing a point and immediately became runner-up in the Germania relay team behind Raspo Elmshorn . The promotion to the Hamburg Oberhaus succeeded in 1956. There the team was immediately third and just missed the promotion round to the Oberliga Nord . In 1958, Betten-Holm had to file for bankruptcy. Only through his successful youth work was Grün-Weiß able to stay in the Hamburg amateur league until 1962 .

In 1961, the team caused a sensation in the North German Cup when they beat the upper division Hannover 96 3-2 in the second round . In the 1966/67 season, the team returned for a year to the Hamburg upper house, rose again as the bottom of the table and had to leave the association league in 1969. In 1976 Grün-Weiß merged with Eimsbütteler SV to become Grün-Weiss Eimsbüttel .
