The green and wood care usually serves to keep the clearance profile free and to care for the greenery along the road . In particular, the visibility of signs and traffic signs must be ensured at all times.

purpose

Mowing work is carried out on the one hand to ensure sufficient visibility and an appropriate field of vision for road users, and on the other hand to ensure proper drainage of the traffic areas. The removal of damaged and diseased plants and the removal of trees and branches after storms and wind breaks is also important. In addition, the trees and bushes on the side of the road have to be tended and cut back on a regular basis .

Areas

The green and wood care extends to the intensive area and the extensive area . In the intensive area ( shoulder ), the mowing work must be carried out one to three times a year , depending on the given factors such as altitude, topography and climatic conditions. In the extensive area, green and woodland maintenance is only carried out if it is necessary for landscaping or structural reasons.

Tree pruning on the federal highway

At the beginning of winter, citizens and nature conservation associations complain that maintenance measures along main roads and highways often take on the character of clear-cutting . The procedure of the road construction authorities is partly justified by the fact that there is no personnel or money available for the careful and selective treatment of woody stands to guarantee the traffic safety obligation. In many places, tree protection statutes have now been issued that ensure that replacement plantings are carried out for deforested green areas and felled trees.
