The Grünburgers (Grunenpurch) were a noble family of the 12th and 13th centuries in the land above the Enns and, in addition to the Kuenringers, also held Bavarian fiefdoms in the Wachau ( Lower Austria ).

The Grünburgers appeared with their characteristic first name Popo from the beginning of the 12th century , especially in connection with the monasteries Garsten and Ranshofen and the Bavarian dukes, and around 1180 they were called ministeriales ducis Bawarie ( i.e. ministeriales of the dukes of Bavaria).

The Green Burger had the location in Steyr Valley since 1278 Grünburg by the Bavarian Duke fief. Only at the end of the 14th century did the Austrian Duke Albrecht III. Grünburg itself.

In the 13th century, the Grünburgers also had a close relationship with Gleink Monastery .

Popo von Grünburg is the most important representative of the sex . In 1285 Ulrich II von Kapellen sold his own St. Georgen and the church (in Upper Austria ) and around 1290 the Schwallenbach and Willendorf estates in Lower Austria , which he had as a fief there from the Bavarian duke.
