The Notburga Museum in the former rectory in the municipality of Eben am Achensee in Tyrol documents the life story of Notburga von Rattenberg .

Former rectory

The former rectory (Widum) with a curved gable stands directly behind the Church of St. Notburga and was built in the second half of the 18th century. With the parish and pilgrimage church, the Messnerhaus and the museum building, a remarkable ensemble of baroque architecture.

Notburga Museum

The subject areas of the exhibition include legend and historical truth, the situation of the underprivileged house staff, Notburga as an addressee in all needs of life as well as arts and crafts in connection with the veneration of saints. They are presented in seven rooms.

In 2003 the parish decided to found a museum. The objects were then scientifically inventoried and restored in collaboration with the Tyrolean Art Register . The museum opened in 2004. The museum operator is the parish of St. Notburga. She receives support from the Federal Monuments Office (museums department), libraries , the Tyrol State Conservatory, as well as from the State of Tyrol (culture department) and the municipality of Eben. The majority of the objects on display are owned by the parish. Some loans complete the display collection.

The museum received the Tyrolean Museum Prize 2006 on the grounds that the museum was the only museum in Austria to deal with the life story of a saint under the motto “Adoration of a courageous woman as a saint through the ages” and to a large extent meet the requirements for a saint modern museum .
