The Green Alliance is represented by 13 members in the Basel Grand Council (legislature), 7 of which belong to the Greens Basel-Stadt. These are: Elisabeth Ackermann , Mirjam Ballmer , Talha Ugur Camlibel , Thomas Grossenbacher , Eveline Rommerskirchen , Anita Lachenmeier-Thüring , Michael Wüthrich .

The Green Party of Basel-Stadt has appointed Guy Morin, the first government president of the canton of Basel-Stadt , since 2008 . In 2016 Elisabeth Ackermann was elected to the Basel government.

The party was represented in the National Council from 2007 to 2011 by Anita Lachenmeier-Thüring . The President of the Citizens' Council of the City of Basel, Jürg Stöcklin , is also a member of the Green Basel-Stadt.

history

The Green Party of Basel-Stadt emerged on June 17, 1986 from the Green Party of Northwestern Switzerland and, together with the Green Alternative Basel and the Green Center, was involved in Basel politics. The three organizations finally merged on February 5, 1991. Walter Bieri was elected as the first president. The Green parties won their first mandates in the 1988 grand elections: Peter Schiess, Thomas Wilhelmi (Green Center), Markus Ritter (Green Alternative Basel), Marianne Schmid (Green Party Basel-Stadt / Baselland), Marianne Meyer (SAP).

In the government council elections on November 27, 2004, Guy Morin succeeded in entering the government council; four years later he became the first Green District President in Basel-Stadt. Anita Lachenmeier was elected as the first Green in the National Council elections on October 21, 2007, but had to vacate her seat in 2011 despite the increase in the proportion of voters.

So far, the Greens Basel-Stadt have launched two initiatives. Firstly, the Landhof initiative (2007), which was accepted in the vote on March 7, 2010. The initiative demanded that the area of the former FCB stadium Landhof be classified as a green zone. The second initiative to open the Birsig - a Rivietta for Basel from 2009 - was withdrawn after a counter-proposal.

program

For more than two decades, the Green Basel-Stadt have been providing impetus for a long-term policy in Basel. You are committed to clean air, pure water, healthy food, renewable energies and that nobody has to be poor. We take into account the needs of the people who live here as well as the interests of future generations. Internationally, we stand for non-violence and peaceful conflict resolution. Also in view of the fact that humanity today consumes more resources than the earth can provide in the long term, and climate change is advancing.

The main concerns of the Green Basel-Stadt are:

  1. Basel's energy supply should be nuclear-free and renewable, which is only possible with electricity. Further efforts are required because of the still excessive oil and gas consumption. In addition, renovations of old buildings should become more frequent and solar systems on all available roofs should become a matter of course.
  2. Motorized private transport must decline in favor of bicycles, trams and pedestrians. In order to curb commuter traffic, more tram lines are needed, also beyond the city limits, and an S-Bahn every 15 minutes.
  3. Because Basel is growing again, the housing issue is increasingly an issue. New quarters on the Erlenmatt, in Basel Nord or on the Dreispitz are to be planned as ecological model cities. It is important that Basel remains a city for everyone, including children, migrants and culturally active people.
  4. Today everyone is talking about the densification of built-up areas, but new green and open spaces should also be created for the people in the city. Thanks to the commitment of the Green Basel-Stadt, for example, the Landhof remains a green oasis in the city.
  5. Promotion of the location and urban development are factors for a lively city, but nobody should be marginalized as a result, nor should the remaining open spaces be given up. Neither housing nor health should be a risk of poverty.
  6. And finally, for the Greens Basel-Stadt, integration means that foreigners can help shape and determine.
