Jürg Stöcklin (born September 5, 1951 in Hazaribagh , India ) is a Swiss botanist , emeritus professor and politician .

Life

Stöcklin studied biology at the University of Basel from 1971 to 1977 and graduated with a diploma. In 1986 he did his doctorate there under Heinrich Zoller . From 1988 he was a lecturer in botany at the University of Basel. In 1998 he received his habilitation in botany and in 2007 he was awarded a titular professorship . Meanwhile he has retired.

Stöcklin is married and has two children.

politics

Stöcklin was a Maoist . He joined the Basel Revolutionary Group (RGB) in 1972 and the Basel Communist Federation in 1977. After the latter merged with two other groups to form the Swiss Communist Organization at the beginning of 1979 , Stöcklin took over the chairmanship. In 1980 the SKO took part in the Grand Council elections in the canton of Basel-Stadt with the slogan “For an independent and socialist Switzerland” . It was dissolved in the summer of 1980.

In 1987 Stöcklin joined the Green Alternative Basel (GAB) and in 1991 the Green Party Basel-Stadt , which he chaired from 1994 to 1995 and from 2007 to 2012. From 1997 to 2013 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt and from September 2005 to August 2007 he was parliamentary group president of the Green Alliance . Since 2011 he has been a member of the Basel Citizens' Council, which he chaired from September 2011 to September 2014. Stöcklin has been a member of the Grand Council again since 2017.
