Michael Wüthrich

Michael Wüthrich (born May 27, 1960 in Bern ) is a Swiss high school teacher and politician ( Greens ) and has been a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt since 2005 .

biography

After training as a grammar school teacher for mathematics and physics and a short period of teaching, Wüthrich continued his education in the subjects of computer science , geography and meteorology . In the latter ma he did his doctorate . As a scientist, he worked on various climate projects (ReKliP, HARTEX, Priroda at the Mir (space station) , SIR-C / X-SAR) and at the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Union in Ispra . Since 1996 he has been a teacher and system administrator / IT architect at the Leonhard grammar school in Basel.

He is a member of the board of "Diagnose Funk" and on the board of the "Northwestern Switzerland Action Committee against Nuclear Power Plants ".

On February 7, 2007, Wüthrich was elected President of the Environment, Transport and Energy Commission (DETEC) of the Basel Grand Council . He was re-elected on February 11, 2009.

In 2007 he missed a seat on the Swiss National Council by 500 votes. In 2008 and 2012 he was elected to the Grand Council for a further 4 years.

politics

Wüthrich is committed to nature conservation , the expansion of public transport , the abolition of nuclear energy and a green transport policy. Wüthrich warns of the consequences of global warming .

He advocates a critical approach to cell phone technology and its impact on health . He calls for the transmission power of mobile radio stations to be reduced by a factor of 10 .
