history

Crossing point in the system

The railway from Bremen to Burg as the Geestebahn, the Bremen – Bremerhaven railway line, was relocated to today's railway line around 1914 near Gröpelingen. The former route could thus become a kilometer-long green corridor . In 1953, the first construction phases, the Utbremen green corridor from Bornemacher Strasse to St. Magnus Strasse and the West green corridor from Morgenlandstrasse to Ohlenhof, were realized. The entire green corridor was developed in sections. The narrow green corridor from Oslebshausen to Walle / Waller Heerstraße was 4.5 kilometers long. It is crossed by streets in 12 places. In the largely densely populated area, green open spaces were created. The bike and hiking path made the daily routes more relaxed.

Daffodils

Around the year 2000, the over 50-year-old green area was beautified and modernized in many places. The renovation of benches and seating areas as well as new planting and paving improved the quality of stay. The entire green corridor, also at the entrances, was made lighter, more manageable and more inviting in order to achieve more security for the citizens. Tall, dense trees were cleared and replaced by low, flowering shrubs, flowering ground cover, lawns, tulips and daffodils .

The sculpture park in the west, with the sculptures from the Oslebshausen correctional facility (JVA), has been steadily expanded. The former horticultural department, the current environmental company, the local politicians and the residents have constantly committed themselves to the expansion and maintenance of the green corridor.

From the central green corridor, the green blockland with the Wümme cycle path and the Blocklander Hemmstraße on the Kleine Wümme as well as the allotment garden area In den Wischen up to the Waller Feldmarksee can be reached via the bike and hiking trails . The Waller Street and Waller Damm lead past the small garden areas Hohweg in the Waller Feldmark.
