The Grammicolepididae are a family of the Petersfischischen (Zeiformes). They live in the Atlantic and Pacific at depths of 100 to 800 meters. There are three monotypical genera in two subfamilies.

features

The fish are high-backed and have the typical shape of the Zeiformes. The scales are narrow, long and thin like parchment. In young animals, the second ray of the dorsal fin and the first ray of the anal fin are elongated. In adult fish, they are much shorter. The mouth of the subfamily Grammicolepidinae is very small and contains one to two rows of small teeth. Palatine bone and ploughshare bone are toothless.
