Gramont is the name of a noble family from the old French aristocracy , which is a branch of the house of the Viscounts de Dax , and takes its name from the castle Gramont (Spanish Agramunt) in the southern French countryside of Labourd ( Lower Pyrenees ). The neighboring castles of Bidache and Guiche are still in family ownership (as ruins). In 1563 the lords of Gramont were made Counts of Guiche, in 1643 the head of the family was made Duke of Gramont, in 1739 Duke of Lesparre and in 1780 Duke of Guiche. From 1801 the lines of the Dukes of Gramont / Guiche and the Dukes of Lesparre divided.

  • Antoine III. de Gramont (1604–1678), military and diplomat, Marshal of France , was made duke and peer by Louis XIV .
  • Antoine IV. Charles de Gramont (1641–1720), his son, 2nd Duke of Gramont

  • Antoine VIII. Louis Marie de Gramont (1755–1836), his nephew, Duke of Guiche (since April 16, 1780), Duke of Gramont (since 1801). Since then, the title Duc de Guiche has been held by the eldest son of the Duke of Gramont.
  • Antoine IX. Geneviève Héraclius Agénor de Gramont , whose son, duc de Gramont , b. June 7th, 1789 at the Palace of Versailles, had close ties to the Bourbons from early youth , especially the Duke of Angoulême , was one of the most brilliant figures in aristocratic France and was considered a model of elegance and taste at the court of the Bourbons. He died on March 3, 1854.
