Grande Pierre de Jouy

The Grande Pierre de Jouy is a menhir in the Bois de la Vallée in the north of Jouy-le-Moutier , near Vauréal in the Val-d'Oise department in France .

The menhir was discovered in 1874 by Amédée de Caix de Saint-Aymour (1843–1921). At the time he was very inclined, today he is completely on the ground. It is a 3.0 m long slab of soft sandstone with a width between 2.55 m at the base and 0.9 m at the top and a thickness between 0.5 m and 0.2 m. Although the menhir is located on a 20 m high hill on the right bank of the Oise , it was not visible from the valley.

The menhir has been listed as a monument historique since 1976 .

Nearby are the Allée couverte du Cimetière aux Anglais and the Allée couverte von Dampont ,
